MILLION MARCH GRAND SUCCESS
In an attempt to foil the million march demanding statehood for Telangana, the authorities Thursday cancelled 47 trains coming here from various parts of the region in Andhra Pradesh.
South Central Railway (SCR) cancelled four express trains and 43 passenger trains, connecting various districts of Telangana with Hyderabad.
The authorities also suspended Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) train services on three out of four routes in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad and the outskirts.
The Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) plans to hold the million march in Hyderabad Thursday afternoon to press for a bill in parliament for separate statehood to Telangana.
The sudden cancellation of trains caused severe inconvenience to passengers. Even trains coming from the Andhra and Rayalaseema regions but passing through Telangana have been cancelled.
The cancelled trains include those coming from Warangal, Kazipet, Mahabubnagar, Kamareddy, Miryalguda and Kurnool.
This is the second time this month that trains have been cancelled in the Telangana region. The railways had to cancel all trains in Hyderabad and nine other districts of Telangana due to the daylong rail blockade by TJAC March 1.
Thousands participated in Telangana march------
Thousands of people violated ban orders and removed barricades to assemble at Tank Bund area here Thursday as part of the 'million march' demanding a separate Telangana state.
Unmindful of the massive presence of police and paramilitary forces, Telangana activists reached Tank Bund from different directions around 1 p.m. and demanded that the central government introduce a bill in parliament for carving out a separate state.
It is being seen as a major victory for the Telangana movement as people from different walks of life voluntarily gathered for the march planned on the lines of pro-democracy protests in Egypt.
Raising slogans of "Jai Telangana", singing pro-Telangana songs and playing games, the protestors, including women, remained on Tank Bund, the three km long road along Hussain Sagar Lake linking the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
Activists of various political parties, students, government employees, lawyers, doctors, teachers, journalists, writers and cultural artists were among the protestors.
The protestors, who uprooted barricades put up on both ends of the road, outnumbered policemen and succeeded in holding the march despite the police sealing all the routes leading to the road and arresting thousands of people across Telangana region to prevent them from reaching Hyderabad.
Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) convenor M. Kodandaram, along with other leaders, was arrested by police as soon as he was leaving for Tank Bund from TJAC office.
Some protestors said they would not leave Tank Bund unless Kodandaram and other leaders are released.
Congress MPs K. Keshava Rao and Madhu Yashki, who had reached Tank Bund to participate in the march, faced the ire of protestors, who threw water bottles and other missiles demanding they resign. Both the leaders were forced to leave the venue. Barring this, the protest so far remained peaceful.
Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) legislator Harish Rao, who gave the slip to the police after being arrested along with other TRS leaders near the assembly, managed to reach Tank Bund in a boat.
TRS chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao's legislator son Tarakarama Rao was re-arrested near Tank Bund. Chandrasekhara Rao's daughter Kavita was also among the protestors.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Kishan Reddy and senior leader Bandaru Dattatreya also reached Tank Bund, along with hundreds of party workers.
"The future of coming generations is more important for me than my examination," said a student who reached Tank Bund immediately after writing Class 11 exams.
Tension prevailed in the surrounding areas as police arrested legislators and leaders of TRS, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and BJP.
The legislators were arrested at Basheerbagh as they were heading towards Tank Bund in different groups.
Police also arrested 200 students of Veterinary College when they were proceeding towards Tank Bund.

Telangana bandh grand success
Normal life came to a standstill in parts of Andhra Pradesh Tuesday as a 48-hour shutdown began to demand a bill in parliament for the formation of a separate Telangana state.
Transport services in Hyderabad and nine other districts of the Telangana region were paralysed while shops, business establishments and educational institutions remained closed.
Buses of state-owned Road Transport Corporation (RTC) could not come out of the depots since early Tuesday as the shutdown called by Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) evoked a total response across the region.

TRS activists took out rallies in different parts of Medak, Nizamabad, Warangal and Karimnagar districts to force the closure of shops.

Telangana region Cable operators has decided to block out the “Andhra” channels (tv9,Ntv) which are telecasting the out stories continuously against the Telangana agitation from February 22 initially for 48 hours and then indefinitely, if they do not change their stand.
TJAC M Kodandaram said that The bandh call, however, had got nothing to do with the suspension of six MLAs of the Telangana region from the Assembly, following an unruly scene on the House premises a couple of days ago.
Some TJAC members, including Kodandaram and some other 6 MLAs of the Telangana region from the Assembly, were taken into custody when they were staging a rasta roko at the RTC crossroads today on February 21, 2011.
According to JAC coordinator P Ravinder, all cable operators have been asked not to relay any programme aired by channels owned by those from Seemandhra. Activists will also try to disrupt rail services bound for New Delhi from Hyderabad. Hence, the people, he said, should postpone their journey on these two days to avoid any inconvenience.

Violence in parts of Hyderabad during Telangana protests
Violence rocked parts of Hyderabad Monday feb 21st as pro-Telangana students went berserk, setting afire a local train, ransacking a railway station and clashing with police in several areas.
The Osmania University students’ march to the assembly building turned violent as a group of protestors set afire a Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) train coach at the Jamia Osmania railway station near the varsity campus.
The incident took place even as hundreds of students clashed with police and paramilitary forces at three places around the sprawling campus. Prevented by police from coming out of the campus, the students pelted stones and the police retaliated with a baton charge and tear gas shells.
Another group of protestors ransacked the Necklace Road MMTS railway station near Raj Bhavan, the official residence of the state governor. They set ablaze the reservation counter, destroyed computers and broke window panes.
The incident triggered tension in the high security areas around Raj Bhavan, and the police forced the closure of the shops to prevent a march by pro-Telangana lawyers, who wanted to submit a memorandum to Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan.
There was more trouble as a group of protestors on board a local train tried to stop it forcibly near Raj Bhavan. Police sealed the road leading towards the governor’s residence, causing huge traffic jam in the busy Khairatabad and surrounding areas.
Violence also rocked the Nizam College area near the assembly building as students pelted stones, clashed with police and damaged several vehicles. Tension prevailed at Nizam College as police pushed back the students inside the college and the hostel buildings.
A few policemen were reportedly injured in the stone pelting near the college.
Pro-Telangana leader and Maoist sympathizer Gaddar was arrested at Tank Bund when he tried to march towards the assembly.
The usually busy roads around the assembly building in the heart of the city wore a deserted look as police and paramilitary forces sealed them against the students’ march.
A curfew-like situation prevailed in Basheerbagh, Lakdi Ka Pul, Saifabad, Nampally and surrounding areas as police diverted traffic and were not allowing even pedestrians to move around. The alternate routes were choked with huge traffic jams.
However, a group of girl students managed to sneak through the security cordon and reached the police control room near the assembly building. Raising slogans of ‘Jai Telangana’, the girls tried to move towards the assembly premises but were prevented by the police.
About 40 students were arrested and shifted to waiting police vehicles.
Osmania University, about 10 km away from assembly, turned into a
battlefield as students fought pitched battles with police and paramilitary personnel.
Defying a ban on the gathering of people, hundreds of students began their march to the assembly complex to demand a bill in parliament for carving out a separate Telangana state.
The police had denied permission to the Osmania University Joint Action Committee (JAC) to take out its proposed march. The university witnessed violence during many such attempts in the past.
