A new party to fight for the cause of separate Telangana which is likely to be headed by ballad singer Gadar has taken shape.
Its name was finalised at a meeting here on Saturday as Telangana Praja Front but a formal announcement would be made at a broad-based convention on October 9. The body has a 56-member presidium, each representing a joint action committee of a section of people, which persuaded Gadar to head the organisation but he was reported to have declined the offer.
A presidium member Chikkudi Prabhakar said Gadar might accept the post on October 9 when the manifesto of the party would be released. The six-page manifesto was approved by the steering committee of the party and it would be referred to the district level panels for consideration.
Mr. Prabhakar said district committees for all but Nizamabad have been constituted. He denied it was an alternative to other parties, including Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), which have taken up the cause of separate Telangana. The front's sole aim was to secure Statehood to the region.

TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao, however, refused to react to the emergence of the front. At a press conference today, he said he had no comments to offer.
Telangana Congress leaders have welcomed the decision on formation of Gadar led front. Congress MP G. Vivekanand said that the front was not intended to check the activities of other pro-Telangana forces. MLC K. Yadava Reddy said he would welcome any number of voices in favour of Telangana,
“The more number of people and organisations raise the voice for a separate State, the cause becomes much easier to be achieved,” he said. Mr. Reddy said the Telangana Joint Action Committee constituted last year had some problems but hoped that the front would contribute to the cause of statehood.
TDP leader T. Devender Goud said Gadar had been actively working for separate Telangana and there could be no doubts about his commitment for the cause. The emergence of the new front reflected on the TRS president's “dictatorial attitude” and apprehensions over his commitment to Telangana.
