Telangana bandh grand success

Normal life came to a standstill in parts of Andhra Pradesh Tuesday as a 48-hour shutdown began to demand a bill in parliament for the formation of a separate Telangana state.

Transport services in Hyderabad and nine other districts of the Telangana region were paralysed while shops, business establishments and educational institutions remained closed.

Buses of state-owned Road Transport Corporation (RTC) could not come out of the depots since early Tuesday as the shutdown called by Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) evoked a total response across the region.

The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and other pro-Telangana parties and groups are participating in the strike while the Communist Party of India (CPI) is backing it.

TRS activists took out rallies in different parts of Medak, Nizamabad, Warangal and Karimnagar districts to force the closure of shops.

Police arrested TRS legislator Harish Rao in Secunderbad when he was leading a

motorcycle rally.

The shutdown call evoked partial response in Hyderabad. While RTC suspended all its services to different parts of Telangana and also to Andhra and Rayalaseema regions, it was plying few services in the city.

Educational institutions in the state capital declared a holiday as a precautionary measure. Shops and business establishments were closed in some areas while the shutdown had not much impact in other areas.

The coal production in state-owned Singareni Collieries Company came to a halt as about 70,000 employees joined the Telangana strike. The production in the coal mines spread over four districts of Adilabad, Khammam, Karimnagar and Warangal was affected.

Telangana JAC calls for Telangana bandh on February 22/ 23, 2011

Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) calls for Telangana bandh on February 22/ 23, 2011. Checkout here for latest Telangana- Hyderabad News as TJAC convener professor M Kodandaram told that on February 22 and 23 there would be a bandh in all 10 Telangana districts. Checkout online for latest news related to telangana bandh in some channels like raj news telugu.
Telangana region Cable operators has decided to block out the “Andhra” channels (tv9,Ntv) which are telecasting the out stories continuously against the Telangana agitation from February 22 initially for 48 hours and then indefinitely, if they do not change their stand.
TJAC M Kodandaram said that The bandh call, however, had got nothing to do with the suspension of six MLAs of the Telangana region from the Assembly, following an unruly scene on the House premises a couple of days ago.
Some TJAC members, including Kodandaram and some other 6 MLAs of the Telangana region from the Assembly, were taken into custody when they were staging a rasta roko at the RTC crossroads today on February 21, 2011.
According to JAC coordinator P Ravinder, all cable operators have been asked not to relay any programme aired by channels owned by those from Seemandhra. Activists will also try to disrupt rail services bound for New Delhi from Hyderabad. Hence, the people, he said, should postpone their journey on these two days to avoid any inconvenience.

Violence in parts of Hyderabad during Telangana protests

Violence rocked parts of Hyderabad Monday feb 21st as pro-Telangana students went berserk, setting afire a local train, ransacking a railway station and clashing with police in several areas.
The Osmania University students’ march to the assembly building turned violent as a group of protestors set afire a Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) train coach at the Jamia Osmania railway station near the varsity campus.
The incident took place even as hundreds of students clashed with police and paramilitary forces at three places around the sprawling campus. Prevented by police from coming out of the campus, the students pelted stones and the police retaliated with a baton charge and tear gas shells.
Another group of protestors ransacked the Necklace Road MMTS railway station near Raj Bhavan, the official residence of the state governor. They set ablaze the reservation counter, destroyed computers and broke window panes.
The incident triggered tension in the high security areas around Raj Bhavan, and the police forced the closure of the shops to prevent a march by pro-Telangana lawyers, who wanted to submit a memorandum to Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan.
There was more trouble as a group of protestors on board a local train tried to stop it forcibly near Raj Bhavan. Police sealed the road leading towards the governor’s residence, causing huge traffic jam in the busy Khairatabad and surrounding areas.
Violence also rocked the Nizam College area near the assembly building as students pelted stones, clashed with police and damaged several vehicles. Tension prevailed at Nizam College as police pushed back the students inside the college and the hostel buildings.
A few policemen were reportedly injured in the stone pelting near the college.
Pro-Telangana leader and Maoist sympathizer Gaddar was arrested at Tank Bund when he tried to march towards the assembly.
The usually busy roads around the assembly building in the heart of the city wore a deserted look as police and paramilitary forces sealed them against the students’ march.
A curfew-like situation prevailed in Basheerbagh, Lakdi Ka Pul, Saifabad, Nampally and surrounding areas as police diverted traffic and were not allowing even pedestrians to move around. The alternate routes were choked with huge traffic jams.
However, a group of girl students managed to sneak through the security cordon and reached the police control room near the assembly building. Raising slogans of ‘Jai Telangana’, the girls tried to move towards the assembly premises but were prevented by the police.
About 40 students were arrested and shifted to waiting police vehicles.
Osmania University, about 10 km away from assembly, turned into a
battlefield as students fought pitched battles with police and paramilitary personnel.
Defying a ban on the gathering of people, hundreds of students began their march to the assembly complex to demand a bill in parliament for carving out a separate Telangana state.
The police had denied permission to the Osmania University Joint Action Committee (JAC) to take out its proposed march. The university witnessed violence during many such attempts in the past.

New political party for telangana by gaddar

A new party to fight for the cause of separate Telangana which is likely to be headed by ballad singer Gadar has taken shape.
Its name was finalised at a meeting here on Saturday as Telangana Praja Front but a formal announcement would be made at a broad-based convention on October 9. The body has a 56-member presidium, each representing a joint action committee of a section of people, which persuaded Gadar to head the organisation but he was reported to have declined the offer.
A presidium member Chikkudi Prabhakar said Gadar might accept the post on October 9 when the manifesto of the party would be released. The six-page manifesto was approved by the steering committee of the party and it would be referred to the district level panels for consideration.
Mr. Prabhakar said district committees for all but Nizamabad have been constituted. He denied it was an alternative to other parties, including Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), which have taken up the cause of separate Telangana. The front's sole aim was to secure Statehood to the region.
No comments: KCR
TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao, however, refused to react to the emergence of the front. At a press conference today, he said he had no comments to offer.
Telangana Congress leaders have welcomed the decision on formation of Gadar led front. Congress MP G. Vivekanand said that the front was not intended to check the activities of other pro-Telangana forces. MLC K. Yadava Reddy said he would welcome any number of voices in favour of Telangana,
“The more number of people and organisations raise the voice for a separate State, the cause becomes much easier to be achieved,” he said. Mr. Reddy said the Telangana Joint Action Committee constituted last year had some problems but hoped that the front would contribute to the cause of statehood.
TDP leader T. Devender Goud said Gadar had been actively working for separate Telangana and there could be no doubts about his commitment for the cause. The emergence of the new front reflected on the TRS president's “dictatorial attitude” and apprehensions over his commitment to Telangana.

AP on boil over Telangana activists

Andhra Pradesh is on the boil yet again, this time over recruitment exam for the Group-1 category posts in the state service even as the government asserted that the examination will be conducted tomorrow (Sept 5) as per schedule.

The Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) issued the first notification in 2008 for filling up 198 Group-1 posts in various departments and a supplementary notification in July 2009, but the demand for putting the examination off was raised by Telangana activists only last week.

People of Andhra-Rayalaseema regions, however, took strong exception to the demand and wanted the government to conduct the examination as per schedule.

The Group-1 examination was originally scheduled to be held on August 29 but was postponed to September 5 as it clashed with the probationary officers examination of Syndicate Bank.

APPSC chairman Y Venkatarami Reddy said here today that there was no question of postponing the Group-1 examination as all necessary arrangements have been made.

"There is no room for any doubt over the conduct of the examination. It will be held as per schedule," he asserted.

Of the 1.90 lakh candidates who applied for the examination, 1.30 lakh have already downloaded their admit cards from the APPSC's website, Reddy said.

The main demand of the Telangana activists now, who remained silent all these months, is that the APPSC reserve 42 per cent of posts for people of Telangana.

The issue has once again divided the two main parties Congress and Telugu Desam on regional lines with leaders taking divergent stands on the conduct of Group-1 examination.

Ministers from Telangana like Komatireddy Venkata Reddy and D Sridhar Babu have already petitioned Chief Minister K Rosaiah for postponing the exam till their region's "rightful quota" was earmarked.

"It's not proper to conduct such a crucial examination in a surcharged atmosphere," Sridhar Babu said.

Congress MPs and MLAs hailing from Telangana too are exerting pressure on the Chief Minister to get the exam postponed.

Congress Central Working Committee member G Venkata Swamy is understood to have spoken to Rosaiah over phone to raise the demand for putting off the exam.

TDP's Telangana Forum convenor Nagam Janardhana Reddy, Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K Chandrasekhar Rao and the so-called Joint Action Committees of Telangana too have raised a similar demand and wanted the government to give the region its due share in Group-1 posts.

This led to strong protests from people and leaders of Andhra-Rayalaseema regions who strongly denounced the "strong-arm tactics" of the Telangana activists.

"The careers of lakhs of aspirants should not be jeopardized for narrow political gains. Each candidate prepares for months to take the examination and if it is postponed for frivolous reasons, it will strongly affect the candidates," Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal observed.

TDP's senior MLA from Rayalaseema Payyavula Kesav and others too strongly opposed the demand for postponing the exam.

Meanwhile, students in Telangana took to streets demanding postponement of the exam while their counterparts in Andhra-Rayalaseema organised counter protests favouring conduct of the test as scheduled.

The Telangana activists also forced closure of educational institutions in the region today while a bandh has been called for tomorrow.

State Director General of Police K Aravinda Rao announced that prohibitory orders under Section 144 Cr P C and also Section 30 of Police Act would be in place in the vicinity of all the 445 examination centres across the state tomorrow.

The entire examination process would be videographed and trouble-makers would be sternly dealt with.

we want our telangana quota 42% in group 1

The Osmania University Joint Action Committee and Telangana Political Joint Action Committee, on Wednesday, demanded that the state government direct the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission to postpone the Group I examinations scheduled to be held on September 5, till the government decides on the issue of 40% quota in recruitments for Telangana candidates.

Talking to media persons, the JAC members stated that without clarifying its stand on the quota issue, the APPSC could not go ahead with conducting the Group-1 examination.

The JAC leaders said that since the APPSC has refused to postpone the scheduled date of September 5, a meeting was called at the Osmania University to chalk out the future course of action on the quota demand.

The APPSC should implement reservation for all communities from the stage of the preliminary examination itself, on the lines of UPSC, they asserted.

The JAC members declared that they would hold a candlelight vigil at all Telangana educational institutions on September 3.

They threatened that the government would be held responsible for any dire consequences that take place in the state in this regard. The members also demanded the removal of APPSC chairman Venkataram Reddy as many corruption charges were pending against him. Widespread protests were witnessed across Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh on Saturday as students boycotted classes in various colleges and universities and took to the streets demanding that the State government postpone the State Public Service Commission preliminary examination scheduled for tomorrow.
Students under the banner of Osmania University Students Joint Action Committee (OUJAC) met State Home Minister P Sabita Indra Reddy and appealed to her to prevail upon the government to postpone the Group-I exams, demanding their share of 42 per cent reservation.
Tension prevailed at the Osmania University campus here as a group of students climbed the Arts College building and threatened to jump if the government did not immediately concede to their demand.
OU Vice-Chancellor T Tirupati Rao reached the spot to pacify the agitated students and make them call off their protest.
